Cathedral Rock at Dusk

A slight breeze ruffled the leaves.
A piercing blue sky held steady above glowing red rock.
Somewhere below, the creek murmured—steady, indifferent.
Birds chirped as they settled in for the evening.

And then, all became very quiet.

Not empty—quiet.

The kind of quiet that doesn’t ask anything of you.
The kind that lets the place be what it is,
and lets you be there with it.

For a moment, there was nothing to capture,
nothing to explain.

Only the sense that something larger had settled in—
or perhaps, that I had.
